The "Service Required" message is an artificial firmware lock. This software executes a register clearance procedure for the Waste Ink Counter (WIC). The tool safely reads the current status and zeroes out the absorber cells directly within the device memory via a USB cable.
Because the software performs low-level I/O operations on the USB bus to read parameters and modify EEPROM memory cells, Windows SmartScreen filters and antivirus software may classify the binary file as unknown software (a result of heuristics and the lack of a commercial EV certificate). The program code is completely safe, executing only the counter read procedure and the ink pad register reset.
